Emerald Road: History of the Celtic People

Emerald Road focuses on Irish and Scottish dances and tells the story of the Celtic people through songs and dances. It includes both hard soled and soft soled dances from traditional jigs and reels to contemporary styles. The History of the Irish People includes a reading of the poem Easter 1916 by William Butler Yeats. The sad history of repression in Scotland and its quest for independence is parallelled to Nelson Mandela’s efforts to end apartheid in South Africa. The program engages the audience in sing-alongs of traditional Irish tunes. Celtic lore and mythology related to the Banshee and fairies are brought to life through dance. And the legacy of the Titanic lives on.
